Dr Mudassar Hussain is a London trained GP with an interest in psychiatry and the complementary health system of Ayurvedic medicine. He is a full member of the Ayurvedic Practitioners Association (UK) and works in London as a GP and Independent Mental Health doctor.
He completed his medical training at University College London, during which time he worked part-time as a psychiatric nurse and fitness instructor and also completed an intercalated degree in psychology.
On qualifying as a doctor he trained to be a general practitioner, later developing his interest in psychiatry, by working in different sub-specialities. In his work with traumatised patients he began to use meditation as a therapeutic tool to manage stress and aid the processing of emotional trauma for both medical staff and patients.
He completed his Ayurvedic medicine diploma, which included clinical attachments to Ayurvedic teaching hospitals in Sri Lanka. He strives to use Ayurvedic principles in his work where possible.
Dr Hussain tends to be holistic in his approach to consultations, taking physical, social, psychological, dietary, lifestyle factors, as well as Ayurvedic principles into consideration.
He has utilised and developed this approach in a number of clinical and non-clinical settings to aid stress management and health promotion for people with differing needs.
In clinical settings, these strategies have been taught to and utilised by patients and staff members within NHS mental health services in London, mental health services in Melbourne, the obstetric service at Queen Charlotte’s Hospital, London and General Practice in London.
Dr Hussain has published a handbook to compliment his holistic consultation and stress management service. This includes a CD to guide one through a breath focused mindful meditation. A complimentary copy of the CD and handbook will be made available to all clients.
